I haven't upload my new illustration yet because my monitor broken, thanks to my dad. Because of that, i cant use my scanner to. I promised myself to save money for buy new monitor, then pen tablet.

I will move to new company in few days, it's pretty exciting.

if someone made an illustration by tracing it from a picture or photograph (with or without modification) without permission then sell it or show it to public... is it still they're original artwork or just a remake or cheat?

how about if they did it with permission or at least give the credit for the owner of original photographer, or show the url where they got the picture that they traced?

what do you think?

few days ago, i read an article about few Japan Mangakas who are tracing some artists photograph into their comics. Like Slam Dunk etc. It considered as crime. you can see how identical they are here [link]

Do you think the same way? tracing without permission or credit as crime? just the same as plagiarism?

A clothing brand in Indonesia stole people artwork for their t shirt designs. That's really a shame! A girl (victim), named Lala Bohang, posted in her blog about it [link]

Several days after that, the clothing company erased the image of the stolen illustration from their site. I think it's because several people (include me) have complaint it on their shout box. And still, they didn't apologize at all to Ms. Lala Bohang.

Even moosebeliever has erased the image from their site, that doesn't mean they didn't sell it anymore.

They stole it, they sell it, they hide it, and they don't ask for apology. I think apologize is not enough thou. They have to PAY Lala Bohang for using her artwork.

Beware my friend, dont let others steal your artwork and sell it. As artist, we should help and support each other. yesterday, her artwork was stolen. May be tommorow, you will be the next victim.

Udah mau sebulan nih gue lulus, 2 minggu lagi wisuda dan resmi jadi S.Ds
tapi entah kenapa gue belum dapet kerjaan tetap sampe sekarang. untungnya amasih ada freelance kecil-kecilan, tapi sekarang udah selesai proyeknya...

sempat ngelamar di sebuah perusahaan desain slash illustrasi slash majalah terkenal. tapi ternyata.. lowongannya udah ditutup dari setahun yang lalu *gue salah ngeliat tanggal di pengumuman lowongannya XDDDD*

kemudian gue ngirim lagi ke perusahaan apa gue ga tau, krn mereka ga mau nyebut nama perusahaanya di pengumumannya. gue ngirim pas udah mau deket deadline. gue kirim lewat pos indonesia milih paket kilat. Lalu gue tanya sama petugas pos-nya...

gue : ini kira-kira nyampenya berapa lama?
pak pos : 5 hari paling cepet
gue : ini bukannya kilat ya?
pak pos : iya bener. kalo mau yang lebih cepet lagi pake kilat khusus
gue : *mikir... lah, kalo jangka waktunya 5 hari, kenapa dia dikasi nama paket kilat???!!! sialaannn....
gue : boleh diganti jadi kilat khusus pak?
pak pos : yah... ga bisa, udah terlanjur...

yah, begitulah... mungkin akhirnya portfolio gue yang udah gue print pake photo glossy paper dan gue desain jadi berformat kayak buku company profile itu terbuang sia-sia karena nyampenya telat. gara2 paket kilat yang ga ada kilat-kilatnya sama sekali. masa masih jakarta aja bisa 5 hari???

tapi gue belum putus asa, masih nyoba nglamar-nglamar. walau masih sedikit sih perusahaan yang gue coba. besok mau coba ngirim lamaran lagi :smile:

tapi yaaa... kalo misalnya ada yang mau ngasih lowongan atau kerjaan atau proyekkan freelance, gue mau banget! apalagi kalo jadi illustrator artist buat buku anak dan cover novel, story board artist, ato bikin komik.

mohon bantuannya ya teman2
tapi kalo ga dibantuin juga gpp sih...

i just found out a shocking fact

an amateur songwriter, a freshman... got Rp 35 million per song.
this songwriter is my friend. she doesn't know anything about theories of music, tunes, not, and how to arrange it. she just pretty good in playing guitar, but still not better than me.

but she can sell her song for 35 fuckin million

and i just wondering

why are we, fresh illustrators and designers, cant get that much for our works?

i mean, we work harder, with more time --than just write several paragraphs on a paper and record it with tape recorder with poor guitar skill as the back sound--, and more money for the materials... but why... why we get less than an amateur song writer?

I mean... i have a designer friend, who has a position as AD, only gets 15 million a month, and 10 million for side projects such as making design for billboard, or commercial, or posters... any promotion materials.. seriously, he only gets 10-20 millions per projects. and he works like a horse to get that.

i dont mean to insult or underestimates any song writer
i just think, designers and illustrators should get more than a song writer, because... they work harder

isn't it? or it's just me with my narrow mind?

why am i never good enough for you people?
can't you just love me for what i am, not for what you want me to be?

One day my professor at uni told me "Technology has help artists so much, but the artists become less creative because there are too many tools to help them. Just name it.... photoshop, pen tablet, etc."

And he added "Even a kindergarten could draw as good as you as long they know how to use photoshop."

Humm... i don't know... maybe that's right. but actually, im not good with pen tablet, i don't really like this thing. I've tried it, i borrow my friend's pen tablet. it's really helpful to make animation or flash cartoon. but for using it to make an illustration...? i found it is not fun at all. I still love my pencils, drawing pen, and water color. i just use photoshop when i'm too lazy to color my draw, esp for comics.

My professor said : as an artist, it's okay to use technology to help us create art. But it's a lame when we addicted and too depended on it.
i believe he right. i agree with him.

my question is...
when is someone can be called addicted and too depended on technology?

Today, my Illustration docent at uni asked me via chat, "What is your Final Exam Title?"

I mentioned 3 titles that i've proposed.

And he asked, "What are the challenges?"

I answered, "I think there is no challenges unless to find the basic theory for the themes."

And he asked me again, "So why you chose those titles if there's no challenge about it? why did you make something that has no problem to be solved?"

oh...that was he meant.

I answered several problems that makes my topic different from other topic, but he didn't answer my reply. I don't know it's because of bad internet connection or because i have disappointed him.

hufff... he's an extremely smart and idealist person. somehow, even i know how hard to pleased him with our final exam, i kinda hope he will be my adviser docent for my final exam... he's really good!

even he's not my adviser docent, i will ask him for suggestion

We found some terrorists are islam but that doesn't means all islam people are terrorists. we have learn about that. and i believe in that too.

Why don't we use the same idea for everybody? Not just for Islam and the terrorists...

We knows America attacked Iraq... but that doesn't mean all American evil and love to attack Iraq. why still some people hates America and American?

We knows Israel attacked Gaza and the people. but... does it actually means that everybody is allowed to hate Israel, to hate people in and from Israel, to hate Jewish and all Judaism? even if they never live in Israel, never attack Gaza people, and hate the invasion of Gaza?

i always in love with Kurt Cobain... i love him so much, with my body and soul.

I love the way he sing, the way he smashed his guitar, the way he talk, i love his songs... even i can't hate him when i see a video shows he masturbated in front of a camera in a concert.

I  thought Cobain will be my only favorite male singer for me... and then i got crushed by Tom Yorke's voice...

i heard Radiohead a lot lately. maybe a hundred times a day i always like Radiohead, but i just realized how fascinating their songs are. and Tom Yorke... amazing voice...
